Nottingham became the 'Home of English Sport' in 2015. It hosts two professional football teams: Notts County, formerly the world's oldest professional league club, and Nottingham Forest, famously two-time winners of the UEFA European Cup . The city has professional rugby, ice hockey, and cricket teams. Nottingham's public transport system is the largest publicly owned bus network in England. In 2015 Nottingham was named a City of Literature by UNESCO joining Dublin, Edinburgh, Melbourne, and Prague as one of only a handful in the world. The city is served by three universities—the University of Nottingham, Nottingham Trent University and the Nottingham Campus of the University of Law. |
Nottingham DAB Ltd is a partnership between Nottingham's community radio stations Radio Faza and Radio Dawn supported by 97.4 Kemet FM, as well as Niocast Digital and Chris Hurst. The company has been formed to apply for the licence to bring small-scale DAB digital radio to the city of Nottingham.
Radio Faza has been serving Nottingham's South Asian and Eastern European Communities since 2006. Its philosophy is to celebrate the cultural diversity of the area; creating substantial positive change for local people and developing the station into a vibrant and sustainable social enterprise. Radio Dawn has also been broadcasting across Nottingham since 2006 and is committed to spreading the message of peace and building trust with Muslims and the wider community. Through their range of programs, Radio Dawn aims to educate and entertain listeners of all ages from all backgrounds. Chris Hurst is a long standing senior radio executive who has won applications for small scale multiplexes licences in both Edinburgh and Cardiff. He also operates successful, locally-focused radio stations in Cheshire, regional music genre stations in Manchester and Liverpool and a local DAB multiplex. Niocast Digital operates the small-scale DAB multiplex in Manchester, one of ten across the UK taking part in a national trial of the new system. Having also run successful trials in Dublin and Cork, Niocast is one of the most experienced operators of small-scale DAB. |
What is DAB?
DAB stands for Digital Audio Broadcasting. DAB opens up new opportunities for broadcasters and a dramatic increase in listener choice. Here in Nottingham we’re planning to create a new ‘ecosystem’ of radio listening that caters for a wide range of tastes, interests, communities and age groups. Why you should get your radio station on DAB
|
A radio ecosystem is an interdependent community of transmission providers, broadcasters, advertisers and listeners - all connected for mutual gain and to maximise individual outcomes".
