Walsall is a market town and administrative centre of the borough of the same name in the West Midlands. Historically part of Staffordshire, it is 9 miles north-west of Birmingham.
Walsall is the administrative centre of the wider Metropolitan Borough of Walsall. It was transferred from Staffordshire to the newly created West Midlands County in 1974. At the 2011 census, the town's built-up area had a population of 67,594 with the wider borough having a population of 269,323. Neighbouring settlements in the borough include Darlaston, Brownhills, Pelsall, Willenhall, Bloxwich and Aldridge. |
Walsall DAB Ltd is a partnership between Walsall's community radio station Ambur Radio and Wolverhampton community radio station WCR. Other partners are Niocast Digital and Chris Hurst. The company has been formed to apply for the licence to bring small-scale DAB digital radio to Walsall and the wider Metropolitan Borough.
Ambur Radio is the Ofcom-licensed analogue community radio station for Walsall and has been broadcasting since 2009. Wolverhampton Community Radio is the Ofcom-licensed analogue community radio station for Wolverhampton and has been broadcasting since 2007. Chris Hurst is a is a long standing senior radio executive who runs small scale multiplexes licences in Edinburgh, Cardiff, Liverpool, Wolverhampton, Preston, Nottingham and Warrington. He also operates successful, locally-focused radio stations in Cheshire, regional music genre stations in Manchester and Liverpool and a local DAB multiplex. Niocast Digital operates small-scale DAB multiplexes in the cities of Edinburgh, Cardiff, Liverpool, Wolverhampton, Preston, Nottingham, Warrington, Widnes & Runcorn and Mid Cheshire. Having also run successful trials in Dublin and Cork, Niocast is one of the most experienced operators of small-scale DAB. |
